Mexican Institute of Sound

Camilo Lara is a Mexican musician, producer, remixer, and composer. His influence extends beyond the borders of Latin music, shaping the soundscape of contemporary global culture. As the driving force behind the Mexican Institute of Sound (M.I.S.), Lara has fused cumbia with a diverse array of tropical and electronic sounds, creating a sonic signature that resonates with audiences worldwide. He writes music for film, TV and video games, sometimes composing the score, other times contributing with songs, incidental music, or musical supervision. His music has been featured in over 300 films, TV shows, and video games, including Pixar’s Coco, Marvel’s Wakanda Forever and Thor: Love and Thunder. His work as a composer won him an Emmy in 2021 for the Apple TV show “Home”. As an artist and producer, he has received multiple grammy nominations, including one for producing the score and soundtrack for Alfonso Cuaron’s film “Y tu mamá también”. He has produced a wide range of artists, from Corrido Tumbado superstar Natanael Cano to Norah Jones, Beck and Damon Albarn’s Africa Express. He has been commissioned remixes by everyone from the Beastie Boys, Metallica, Morrissey and Placebo to Don Letts, Tony Allen, Julieta Venegas and Run The Jewels. He has is own radio station on GTA V.
