Melissa Brizuela is a second generation Canadian born and based in Toronto. Her recent foray into poetry writing encapsulates her penchant for wearing her heart on her sleeve and writing love letters to friends. Her poetry practice is a welcome detour from her ongoing short story memoir project; part recipe collection, part homage to friendship told through experiences of cooking with friends in Toronto, Tallinn and New York City while navigating life after grief. She has a BFA in New Media from Ryerson* University (*renaming in process) and is a Community Advisor with ThisIsReset.org. This is her first course with Hillside.
