Laurel Tubman is one of Toronto’s most versatile and sought-after singers in the city. Born and raised in Eden Mills, Laurel started singing in the church at a young age. After completing a Bachelor of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University, she took a break from singing, but music, she soon realized, is an inescapable part of her life. She wouldn’t want it any other way! Career highlights include singing with the Nathaniel Dett Chorale; the Jason Wilson Band; Hey Love, a Toronto-based wedding/event band; and working as an Artist-In-Residence at the world-renowned New York Bar in the Park Hyatt Tokyo, Japan. At Hillside, Laurel joins her singer friends (and a couple of instrumentalists) to present a set of uplifting, moving, soul-stirring songs from across the African diaspora – spirituals, gospel and Afro-centric folk.
