The Guelph Comedy Festival is teaming up with Hillside for another fantastic and hilarious year! GCF is celebrating its 10th anniversary and to celebrate we’re sending two of our funniest comedians to Hillside!
PRESENTER: Spencer Dunn
Meet Spencer!
Spencer was born in Niagara but has called Guelph home on and off since 2017. He is the program Manager for the Canadian Improv Games, Canada’s largest youth theatre festival. He is a former member of The Making-Box Brigade, voted best live entertainment in Guelph 3 years in a row. He’s also a sitting member on the Board of Directors for the Guelph Comedy Festival. Through these three rad organizations he has performed at the Detroit Improv Festival, The Big City Improv Festival, Toronto Sketchfest, and the Jasper Folk Music Festival. He spends his summers organic farming, tracking down migratory birds, and jumping in lakes.
COMEDIAN: Sarah Boston
Sarah Boston has had a circuitous route to the glamorous world of comedy performance and writing. She is a veterinary cancer surgeon and cancer survivor. (Ironic, right?) Her bestselling memoir, LUCKY DOG: HOW BEING A VETERINARIAN SAVED MY LIFE, was published by The House of Anansi in 2014. LUCKY DOG will make you laugh and ugly cry, sometimes at the same time, most of the time out loud. Sarah’s book got her on the path of comedy writing and eventually stand up comedy. Sarah has taken comedy writing and stand up classes at Second City, Absolute Comedy and the American Comedy Institute. She made the Top 10 in CBC Comedy’s 2019 Next Up amateur comedy competition. She is the founder of a satirical veterinary online newspaper called The Cageliner. It’s like The Onion, but for veterinary peeps, but you can read it too if you want. She is 2023 graduate of the Humber College Comedy Performance and Writing Program. She is the 2023 recipient of the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award, which recognizes and supports promising comedic performers in the early stages of their careers, as well as the Award for Academic Excellence from Humber College. In her free time, she enjoys treating dogs and cats with cancer. She is actively seeking representation and conflicts of interest.
COMEDIAN: Renee Groux
Since she was 19, Renee has been entertaining in the best comedy spots across Ontario. Now at 26, she is the co-producer of Fever Dream Comedy in Kitchener-Waterloo, has appeared at the Guelph Comedy Festival, Hillside Festival, the 2022 Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has recently opened for TV’s Jon Dore. Tune in to 93.3 CFRU in Guelph-Wellington and the Tri-cities to hear her comedy talk-show, “Worst Responders” every Monday at noon! Whether on stage or over the airwaves, Renee promises to get silly (and probably gross!) and bring the laughs.
