Hot Under Your Feet

Carol Moogk-Soulis has been a shade advocate for more than 30 years. She has inspired thousands of school children, educators, and community members to plant trees on their schoolyards. She has also conducted research on the affect of urban heat islands on the health of children. She received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the City of Waterloo Award in recognition of her work.

Neal Moogk-Soulis has planted trees in Waterloo Region to create shade oases. There isn’t a sunny space that he thinks couldn’t be improved by a patch from a shady tree.
