Giving Tuesday

Tuesday, December 1 marks the eighth annual edition of Giving Tuesday and, beyond asking you for financial donations, we want to know what Hillside means to you, via #WhyINeedHillside on socials!

GivingTuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday.

Both at the height of summer and in the middle of winter, Hillside, a not-for-profit charity, curates festivals that bring innovative music, Indigenous drumming, children’s entertainment, environmental learning, and glorious food to thousands of people. At the festivals and during the rest of the year in local schools and at camps, we offer over 140 educational workshops in Indigenous culture, songwriting, peacemaking, health & wellness, and environmental projects.

We work with other festivals in our community, offering stimulating co-presentations across artistic genres, and we regularly donate tickets to community groups for their fundraising and outreach efforts. (In 2019, we donated 133 tickets, which had a total value of $20,697.00.)

We are deeply embedded in our community, and we work passionately to inspire creativity and altruism, to ensure equality and peace, and to promote a resilient, affirmative approach to life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have shifted our programming from in-person to online with Hillside Homeside 2020 and Hillside Inside 2021 coming up in February 2021.

For GivingTuesday this year, we are asking community members to share #WhyINeedHillside on social media and tell us how Hillside has helped them heal and grow.
