Earth Day 2021

Earth Day 2021 is observed on April 24th, with more than 1 billion people in 192 countries engaging in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world (EARTHDAY.ORG). Environmental Defence Canada lays out some suggestions for what Canada could commit to at the Leaders Climate Summit this Earth Day that you can read here, including a commitment to phasing out fossil fuels, ending financial support for fossil fuels, setting a new, stronger climate target, and integrating environmental justice in government action.

This year, we’re especially excited to celebrate Climate Live coming to Canada. Climate Live was created to unite people through music and reach the majority who are currently not engaged with the global climate crisis. In September 2019, 7.6 million took to the streets to demand climate action in September 2019, yet leaders still fail to act with the necessary urgency (Climate Live).

Climate Live is launching simultaneous youth-led climate concerts for April 24th and October 16th, 2021, taking place in over 40 countries, and led by the Fridays for Future youth climate groups who organize the school strikes.⁣⁣ We’re so proud to see Girls & Guitars alumni Moscow Apartment and The Lifers on the lineup for Climate Live’s concert to create change!

Artists, activists and scientists will take to stages across the globe for climate action. Climate Live will harness their universal power of music to:⁣⁣

ENGAGE a new audience through music. ⁣⁣

EDUCATE in the challenges faced today by people on the frontlines of ecological breakdown.⁣⁣

EMPOWER and pressure world leaders to take action to combat the climate crisis with a focus on COP26.

We invite you to join the Climate Live concert on Saturday, April 24th at 8PM ET or at 12AM ET live on Twitch and Facebook.

Another concert we are proud to support is the Virtual Benefit Concert with Sultans of String & Friends for Environmental Defence Canada at 7PM ET on April 24,2021. With the Ontario government’s continued attacks on the environment such as stripping back protections for endangered species, gutting the powers of Conservation Authorities, increasing the use and abuse of MZOs to speed up sprawl, and resurrecting two zombie 400 series highways – we need to come together.

Please join us for a virtual fundraising concert hosted by Sultans of String in support of Environmental Defence’s work to protect Ontario’s environment. Tickets can be purchased here for regular access to the concert or a VIP package with locally-made snacks and treats delivered to your doorstep.
