Hillside makes a point of using only wheelchair accessible venues for our events. We aim to accommodate anyone with special needs, and so stay alert to the possible rise of accessibility problems that we hope we can resolve to ensure that all patrons have an equally enjoyable Hillside experience. All staff read carefully through the Hillside accessibility information to fully understand Hillside's Accessibility policy.
Hillside Summer Festival – Guelph Lake Island
The designated Access Support Krew (ASK) is available to support any patrons who may need additional access support during the festival. This dynamic crew works throughout the weekend, and offers the following services:
- Accessible on-island parking for patrons with an official, government issued accessibility parking permit;
- On-call sign language interpretation;
- Manual wheelchair rentals (2-hour limit);
- "The Oasis" (a shade tent) for patrons with a disability, facing the main stage;
- Accessible outdoor porta-potties;
- A private, cool space for changing or taking a break;
- Fresh drinking water for service dogs.
The ASK tent is located at the entrance to the main grounds of the festival. Our policy is if you need anything, just ASK!
Other Event Locations - City of Guelph
Wheelchair-accessible venues used for other Hillside events include the following three main locations: the River Run Centre, St. George's Church, and Guelph City Hall. These venues provide accessible washrooms, have low drinking fountains, and both the River Run and St. George's offer designated areas for wheelchair seating. During the events, Hillside staff and volunteers are available at these locations to accommodate the needs of patrons with special needs.
Hillside Festival Office—341 Woolwich Street, Guelph, ON N1H 3W4
We renovated our office building so that the main floor is accessible. We have an accessible washroom and a main working area with room for several work stations. We tore down a wall on the main floor to increase traffic flow and installed an automatic door at the entrance. Our front entrance has a beautiful new ramp designed by Lloyd Grinham of Grinham Architects.
