Tannis Slimmon

Tannis Slimmon

Tannis Slimmon grew up in a musical family on a farm in Manitoba and has been performing, songwriting and recording for over 30 years. She moved to Guelph, Ontario in 1980 and soon became known on the Canadian music scene as a member of the critically acclaimed Bird Sisters. Her solo career began in 2001 with the release of “Oak Lake”, an album heavily influenced by her early years in rural Manitoba. Her exceptional voice “full of gentle grace and unobtrusive dignity” can be heard on more than 80 albums (including those by Willie P. Bennett, Valdy, David Francey and Rheostatics) and is considered to be a Canadian “musical treasure”. Highly regarded for her compelling live performances, enchanting melodies, and strong lyrics, in 2008 she was honoured with the Contemporary Vocalist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards for “Lucky Blue”, her second album which is a rich offering of songs and artwork influenced by travels to Mali, West Africa and Cuba.  Tannis’ third album “In and Out of Harmony”, released last year, is ‘infectious, uplifting and thought-provoking all at the same time.’ (Beatroute).
