Hillside Inside 2014

February 7 - 9

Portal Dance Project

Portal Dance Project

Portal Dance Project, under the direction of dance artist, Janet Johnson, presents excerpts from This Side of Light, an intimate, physically charged dance work inspired by the role light plays in our lives. Created specifically for Goldie Mill in 2011, This Side of Light chooses to chase after the light & edge away from the pathways of darkness.  With a diverse & extraordinary cast of acclaimed dancers--Katie Ewald, Robert Kingsbury & Lynette Segal--we bring to you a dance work portraying our inexplicable relationship to light & shadow.

Portal Dance Project's choreographer, Janet Johnson:

After a fruitful dance career in Toronto, Janet Johnson moved to the smaller but radiant community of Guelph where she co-founded the Guelph Dance Festival and the Guelph Youth Dance Training Program. Since coming to Guelph, Janet has danced with Dance theatre David Earle for 16 years, with Montreal choreographer, Suzanne Miller, and with Toronto choreographers, Karen Kaeja, Susan Lee and Kathleen Rea. Janet was recently certified in a brand-new movement form, gyrokinesis, which she teaches along with conditioning-with-imagery. Janet formed Portal Dance Project in 2011 to whet her choreographic appetite & desire for collaboration & dialogue as well as to help foster the development of Guelph's diverse creative fabric.
